Creating great communities
"Active, vibrant, connected, caring, healthy and safe"
The SmartGrowth Strategy aims is to continually improve the quality of life for everyone who lives in the western Bay. To achieve this, we rely on a strong partnership with our community.
We’re involved in the development of a range of community facilities and projects. Specific Partner Forums deliver targeted research and advice on population ageing, housing affordability, property development and issues concerning tangata whenua and the social sector.
Our challenge now is to plan for our growing and changing community. This means we’ll be looking at:
Advocating for the importance of social infrastructure co-investments
Cross-institutional examination of key issues e.g. establishment of the Population Ageing Technical Advisory Group with the Bay of Plenty District Health Board
SmartGrowth has assisted in bringing together the District Health Board and the University of Auckland who worked to create a clinical education school for Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty
One of the first local authority areas to develop a Social Infrastructure Planning Framework
Better links with the community and sectors on key issues through engagement with the seven Partner Forums
Support for development and implementation of Regional Tertiary Intentions Strategy
Support for development of secondary school SmartGrowth education resources
