In 2020 the Urban Form and Transport Initiative (UFTI) was launched by the SmartGrowth partners. UFTI seeks a step change towards more sustainable urban settlement focusing on building up, not out, and a shift away from private car dependence. UFTI sets out an integrated land use and transport programme, and delivery plan for a “Connected Centres” settlement vision for the sub-region.
The SmartGrowth Strategy builds on the direction and programme laid out in UFTI. It is our plan to manage growth in the western Bay of Plenty sub-region. It considers how housing, land, infrastructure, transport, community development, tāngata whenua aspirations, and the natural environment need to be looked at together to achieve effective long-term growth. We want you to feel confident that we have a plan in place to manage growth, so we can all be proud of where we live.
The Connected Centres settlement vision forms the basis of the updated SmartGrowth Strategy.
